Building Your Practice: Coaching Techniques

When you initially trained as a coach you may have been introduced to techniques such as the GROW model (Goal, Reality, Options, Way Forward) and some basic NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), as well as learning about rapport, open questioning and advanced listening techniques.

As you gain more experience and your coaching practice develops, you will want to introduce more advanced techniques into your coaching or to learn about other areas of personal development.

In this section you will find articles and resources to help you enhance your coaching technique and learn about continuing your professional development, also known as CPD. You'll find out more about how you can be of more service to your clients during their coaching sessions.

Being Non-Judgmental: The kiss of death for your coaching practice
Hannah McNamara
Whether we trained to be a life coach, executive coach, small business coach or another niche coach, we were taught to keep an open mind. To clear our own thoughts and be completely present with our clients. To listen. To observe. To facilitate. But never to judge. This approach COULD limit you when it comes to building your practice. While this is almost always exactly the right thing to do within the context of a coaching session, it can be the absolute worst thing you do when building your coaching business. If you are trying to be non-judgmental and 'coach-like' in every aspect of your practice, you are on the road to ruin. . . . keep reading

Should Coaches Give Advice?
Joanne Mallon
Should Coaches Give Advice? Lesson one at coaching school tells us that coaching is definitely not about giving advice. The reason for this goes to the root of all personal development - for true fulfillment, it's vital to take responsibility for your own life. If you act based on my advice and it works out, that's a victory for me. If it doesn't work out, you can blame me. At no point are you taking responsibility for your own actions. It won't help your confidence or self esteem one iota and will simply reinforce the (mistaken) notion that you can't do it yourself. . . . keep reading

"I am new to the forum and I wanted to say how fabulous the teleclass was last night! The information imparted was so detailed and "insider" and the whole thing was so informative and inspiring! Thank you!"

"It's given me direction, I also know what not to waste my time on. I was a little sceptical at first, but some of the information has opened up my eyes to what is really possible and given me an insight into 'who I am and what I've got to offer. This alone has been priceless because it's given me the confidence to GO FOR IT."
Shelley Marsden, UK

"The resources, materials & masterclasses are worth their weight in gold, but the tele-call on Creating Packages has not only got me buzzing but I think will justify a year's subscription in just that one hour."
