| Barack Obama and Lewis Hamilton show us anything's possible |

| Waking up to the news reports that Barack Obama has been elected the first black president of the USA, something really struck me about the TV interviews with ordinary people celebrating the result.
In almost every interview people said that they had been inspired. That anything was possible. That if Obama could achieve something so monumental, they could be successful too.
Earlier in the week, the UK news had been filled with Lewis Hamilton's Formula 1 Grand Prix Championship win. The reports centred not so much on the win itself, but on his journey up to that point.
They reported on the courage and determination that he had shown since he started racing as a boy. On the sacrifices made by his family, his father in particular, because they were so sure that he would be successful. How Lewis Hamilton himself had been inspired by his brother who has cerebral palsy and doesn't let it hold him back.
In an age where so few people look up to role models, perhaps these are a few to bear in mind when coaching our clients or even in moments when we wobble.
As I sit here typing with my ankle strapped up and elevated with a nasty sprain, I'm reminded that it's our ability to believe in ourselves and get through any temporary set-backs that makes us grow and develop as people.
