Managing Your Online Profile
Hannah McNamara
Do you know what people are saying about you online? If you don't, you might be in for a shock. Especially if you share your name with someone else! As a coach, it is very important that you protect your brand - and that's usually YOU. And just as important as managing your brand online is being able to FIND your brand online. Right now, go into the Google search box below and do a search on your own name. You can make sure that it only searches for your name as a phrase by putting quotes around it, for example: "Your Name"
If you can't find your name on the first page of the search engine results, your clients won't be able to either. Now try another combination:
"Your Name" coach
Did your details come up that time?
If you still didn't get anything, try putting your town in the search box as well.
If you can't find yourself by putting your name, your profession AND your town into the search engines, you're in trouble because your clients will remember your name long after they've forgotten the company name you trade under. The only way your clients will find your name online is if you put it there. No more hiding your light under a bushel, you've got to 'come out' as a coach!
Now, let's assume that you're getting your name out there. How do you know if people are talking about you favourably? A surefire way is to visit each of the pages that mention you and take a look. If people are saying things that are either offensive or incorrect, contact the webmaster and ask them to either remove or correct the information.
But how do you keep up with changes?
An easy way is to set up a Google Alert, with your name as a keyword. That way, whenever someone posts something on their blog or in their website, you'll get an alert emailed to you.
